Tracking TikTok Ads performance

Track the customers coming from Tiktok Ads to your Facebook pages/WhatsApp API

Pancake can help advertisers track conversations on Facebook/WhatsApp API that originate from TikTok Ads, especially with TikTok's Click-to-Message ads, which many advertisers struggle to monitor.

How do you determine if the customer messaging you came from TikTok Ads?

The instructions below will help you identify customers who are chatting with you come from Tiktok Ads - Click to Message Ads.

Before you go:

  • You need a Facebook page to receive customer's messages from TikTok ads.

  • You are using Pancake to reply to customers of the above Facebook page.

  • You need a TikTok advertising account

Step 1: Authorize + set up App Pancake to access your advertising account

  1. Login to Pancake, and choose your page.

  1. Go to Settings > Tools. Then choose Setting under TikTok Ads settings section.

  1. Click Authorize

  1. Click Confirm to grant permission to Pancake

  1. Back to the Ad account, tick the box the Ad Account which will be used to run the ads. Click Continue to finish.

  1. Select the Eventset or Create new. Eventset is a place you store the Event Data.

You will have to setup the last step: Welcome message incase you're setting up for Messenger.

Step 2: Set up TikTok Ads campaign

You set up the campaign according to the instructions in the following video. Please note that you need to choose EXACTLY the following points:

2.1 With Messenger

If you can't find the "Instant messaging applications", your account seems not to be whitelisted for this feature.

  1. Campaign type: Lead generation

  2. Optimization location: Instant messaging applications

  3. Bidding & Optimization: Conversations or Click

  4. Message event set: Select the Eventset you setup in Pancake

  5. Select app: Choose Messenger

  6. Facebook page_user: page_useris the username of your Facebook page. Usually, it will be on the link to the page.

Other settings on the Ads such as: Target, age, content,... are based on your decision.

2.2 With WhatsApp API

Similar to Messenger, the difference is the app and WhatsApp ID

Step 3: Track customer sources

3.1 On Pancake

When customers from TikTok Ads start a conversation, you can identify the Ad_id of their traffic source. For instance, as shown in the image below. The provided information of Pancake will include:

  • AD ID: This is the Ad ID on TikTok.

  • The time a visitor is recorded on Pancake - is also the time the visitor clicks on the ad and starts texting.

Tips : You can also filter conversations coming from AD ID by:

1. Selecting conversations by Source

2. Select "Filter by Ad ID" 3. Fill in the AD ID you want to filter 4. Click FILTER

3.2 On TikTok Ads Manager

  1. On TikTok Ads Manager campaign, select Custom column

  2. Search "Conversation", select Conversion (Instant messaging app)
